#62: Choose Your Battles
my choice to do X is also a choice to not do everything else
I look at X and think: “We could grow to become good friends.”
I look at Y and think: “This is an interesting project that fits my interests and skills. I could apply myself and succeed in it.”
I look at Z and think: “It’s an exciting question. I can see myself delving into its exploration.
Yet, coming back to the very first Daily Memo: “could do” doesn’t need to lead to a “must do.” My mere capacity to do something doesn’t mean X is the best use of my time and resources. Everything is an opportunity cost: my choice to do X is also a choice to not do everything else. I could be anything, yet I am crafting my life by deciding on my battles: the ones I not merely can fight but must fight. So I ask myself:
