#61: Intellectual Laziness
A bored mind looks for sensations
I noticed I self-sabotage myself by distracting myself with sensations. I engage in meaningless experiences, news, flings, dramas, gossip, and thinking about other people - all to avoid the work and the truth that matters.
In the absence of these emotional sensations, my life would have been empty. In that stillness, I would be forced to do something profound to infuse my life with true meaning. Sensations are fleeting but highly enjoyable, because of how little it takes to engage in them. It takes a lot of effort to reach the same level of engagement from meaningful work.
So I want to start catching myself when I’m about to go into a sensation and ask:
