#20 Communication is...
About delivering an understanding
There is an amazing principle in writing: you write for an audience. Therefore, if your audience doesn’t get it, it’s your fault. It doesn’t matter if the audience isn’t mature or intelligent enough. The only responsibility of a communicator is to clearly deliver an understanding, an impression, or an idea.
If I am telling you about something and you don’t understand, it means I failed at explaining it properly. Finding a proper way to communicate entails a deep understanding of the person, the media they prefer, the way they perceive information, and the tools for doing this.
After all, doesn’t matter how many times you DM me on Instagram if I don’t even go there now. Doesn’t matter what you tell me if I cannot understand the language you are speaking. Instead of “How can I say what I want?”, I must ask “How can I communicate with you in a way that lands?”
