#153: Truth is Easy
no need to delay my gratification of uncovering the truth
I have to make an active effort to resist chocolate. My natural impulse is to devour, my desired behavior is to abstain. In order to abstain, I have to design an intelligent system coupled with a strong narrative. Successfully curbing natural impulses is the pinnacle of human engineering.
Most people are not in their most beautiful or happiest shapes. That is because modern society effectively hijacks inherent human impulsivity. Every piece of media is trying to steal my attention. Most foods are exploiting my evolutionary cravings. I have to craft my environment and master my mind to keep my bad desires out of the door. So, if I want to lead a healthy life, I need to always be on guard.
Yet, it is always easier to give in to the desire rather than abstain from it. Is it not the most pleasurable to succumb to the desire rather than renounce my human nature? Unlike all other modern distractions, the truth remains to be timelessly beneficial. I do not need to delay my gratitifation of uncovering it. The truth is literally the one realm where I don’t need to constrain my natural greed. So I tell myself:
