#142: Uniquely Valuable
"Just be you, girl" is the worst advice

In SEO, the term “uniquely valuable” describes a well-optimized page that is easily discovered by the search engine. The words, in that order, are not only unique but also useful. Anyone can write a piece of text. It’ll be unique by default as long as it wasn’t copied. Every single member of the Surrealist movement was making unique art. So what? Most of them died in obscurity and poverty and millions of pages are lost in Google. Sheer uniqueness is wacky.
It’s funny when a gorgeous yoga model says “Just be you, girl” to her audience of mostly unconfident, unfit wanna-bes. It’s straight-up misleading. Uniqueness needs to be crafted in a way that resonates with an audience. Salvador Dali was not only unique but also valuable. Hence, Dali died as the greatest Surrealist after a life of fame and luxury.
Just being you is utterly insufficient. Just being you is incoherent, dull, or ugly. The accurate phasing is:
Just be uniquely you in a way that is understood, appreciated, celebrated, and admired, girl.
